Random Things About Me

Random Stuff About Me

Random things about me:

I am a lifelong military dependent.

I didn’t start driving until I was 23.

Cotton balls freak me out – just thinking about touching them makes me want to vomit.

I’m somewhat addicted to OPI nail polish.

One of my children is named after the main character of the North American dubbed version of a popular anime.

I can list all 50 states in alphabetical order in under a minute.

I can’t drive backwards.  I can back up but I can’t drive backwards at all.  Not even in a straight line.  I don’t parallel park.  I’m sure I could if I wanted to but I choose not to.  I will drive twelve blocks and walk before I parallel park.

Nerds Rule

I was a nerd before it was cool.  Seriously.

My first celebrity crush?  Dr. McCoy of Star Trek.

I grew up in the 80′s with the ground breaking animation of that time – He-Man.  She-Ra. Thundercats. Dinosaucers.  I always had a thing for dinosaurs.  All the cool middle school girls do, don’t they?  Oh and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Okay I was also super girly and loved me some My Little Ponies.

We also watched a lot of good, family friendly television – Murder, She Wrote.  Remington Steele.  Jake and the Fatman. Magnum, P.I.  Agatha Christie movies. I remember watching MYSTERY! on PBS.  To this day I always wonder if that jar of preserves on the restaurant table is poisoned and intended for another table.  (You earn beaucoup bonus points if you know which television show I am referencing!).  We weren’t in to Family Ties, The Cosby Show, or The Wonder Years.  I guess we weren’t too wholesome.

I love comic books and television shows based on comic books and movies based on comic books.  The only movie I have ever seen more than once at the movie theaters was the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I saw it five times.  Donatello FTW.  I think the only movies I have ever seen on opening day have been based on comic books or video games.

I love anime.  I’ve driven through the seedy downtown of Pensacola Florida in search of bootlegged fansubs back before there was The Internet and back when you could pay for five gallons of gas with the loose change you could find in your car.  I also have tons of VHS fansubs that I will probably never get rid of because they will never subtitle Sailormoon Sailorstars.  I remember being stuck in Florida where there was no Comic Con or anime conventions and dreaming of cosplaying as Yuki Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi.  *sigh*

I live vicariously through my daughter who also loves anime.  We usually make the trek to Atlanta for Anime Weekend Atlanta.  Yeah baby!
